Are we really unplugged and what living on a sailboat gives to me?
Few days ago my friend asked me: can you be really and fully unplugged? Well, it’s a really good question, because we feel and tell you that we are off the grid. What does it mean though? If I had to answer whether we live unplugged as a yes or no, I would have to say: no, I don’t think so. What would make my life totally unplugged? I would need to stop using social media, ditch my phone forever or at least put it away and use it only when it’s really needed. I’d have to quit everything that connects me to “the reality”. That probably would include staying in touch with family and friends as well. Then I’d have to pick an uknown island and make a living by selling pancakes and repairing boats. Would I then be truly 100% unplugged? Maybe, but I don’t think that’s what I ‘m after. The best way to be unplugged for me is to have a choice when I want to be unplugged. Traveling and living on a sailboat give me plenty of those opportunities. I can really reset and feel what I really want in my life while at sea. I can then disconnect from what others or system or media want to tell me I should think, feel, and need. The ocean gives me these moments. Pure nature. No reception and wifi. Night sailing when everyone is sleeping and I’m on my watch and looking at the sky full of stars and the glittering plankton in our wake. A dolphin that appears just underneath our floating home and I can jump into the water to play with it and see the smile and feel my heart beating so fast and I am only here and now. I hope you can now understand why we have been working really hard to end up with this kind of life. Each day we got our work to waiting for us. A boat is very demanding to maintain. Powerful ocean and mother nature requires total respect and full attention and does not tolerate shortcuts. Then there are my kids that never get tired and got their moods just the same as my husband with his personality and myself with all the feelings, needs, moods … I want life with all tastes and want discover all of it. I Take it all. I love it.
